Chhattisgarh: An official said that a BJP leader was killed in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. According to the pinformation, the police suspecting that he sustained a bullet wound. The deceased BJP leader has been identified as 50-year-old Asim Rai.

Chhattisgarh: An official said that a 50-year-old BJP leader was killed by unknown assailants in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. According to the pinformation, the police suspecting that he sustained a bullet wound. The deceased BJP leader has been identified as 50-year-old Asim Rai.

The official said that the incident happened at around 8.30 pm in Purana Bazar area of Pakhanjur town when Asim Rai was riding a two-wheeler. Taking immediate cognizance of the incident, the Kanker police has filed a case under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated the probe.

After being shot, he fell from his two-wheeler and lost his conscious. The BJP leader was rushed to a nearby hospital by passers-by where doctors declared him dead. He was the incumbent corporator and the vice president of the Kanker district unit of the ruling BJP.

According to the eyewitnesses, Rai suddenly fell from the vehicle. The official said that he was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead. After conducting the preliminary examination of Rai’s body, a doctor confirmed that the BJP leader succumbed due to a bullet injury on the head.

However, the doctor further stated that a detailed report in this regard would be available only after the autopsy. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P told media,”Prima facie, circumstantial evidence indicates that the victim might have been shot over rivalry or personal vengeance. We are enquiring into all possible angles.” He was similarly attacked by two men in 2014. Rai had then escaped unhurt and the assailants were arrested.
