China: 13 killed, one injured in massive fire at school dormitory

Beijing: On Saturday, the official news agency said that 13 people have died after a fire broke out in a school hostel in Henan province of China. According to the information, One other was injured in this incident.

On Saturday morning, the official news Agency said that the fire at Yingkai School in Henan’s Yanshanpu Village was reported to the local fire department at 11pm on Friday. After receiving information about this incident, rescue personnel immediately reached the spot and the fire was doused at 11:38 pm.

According to the information, the injured survivor “is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is in stable condition.” Local authorities are investigating the fire’s cause, and at least one person linked to the school has been detained, it said.

According to new agency, 13 people have been confirmed dead, while one person has been injured. The head of the school has been detained in this case. Chinese social media users on Saturday expressed outrage about the fire and called for any safety lapses to be punished.

One commenter on the social site wrote, “It’s too scary, 13 children from 13 families, all gone in an instant… if there is no severe punishment their souls will not rest in peace.” Fatal fires are common in China due to lax safety standards. In November, 26 people died in a fire at the offices of a coal company in northern China’s Shanxi province. At the same time, dozens of people were hospitalized.
