Bhuriya’s remarks, made during a campaign rally in Sailana, sparked immediate backlash from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja swiftly shared Bhuriya’s statement on social media, calling for action from the Election Commission of India.

Congress Leader’s Proposal Sparks Controversy

In response to the criticism, Bhuriya’s party colleague, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari, supported the proposal, highlighting the perceived benefits for individuals with multiple spouses.

However, the BJP seized on Bhuriya’s statement, accusing the Congress of playing divisive politics and seeking to exploit social issues for electoral gain. They also criticized Bhuriya for veering off-topic by bringing up unrelated incidents during his speech.

Bhuriya’s political history adds another layer to the controversy. Having won Lok Sabha elections multiple times in the past, he faces a tough battle in the upcoming polls against BJP’s Anita Chauhan. The constituency, Ratlam, is set to hold elections in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls on May 13.
