Congress party lone Jharkhand Lok Sabha MP Geeta Koda quits party, joins BJP

Jharkhand: On Monday, Geeta Koda, Congress MP from Singhbhum, Jharkhand, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after quitting her party. She is the wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda.

Jharkhand: On Monday, Geeta Koda, Congress MP from Singhbhum, Jharkhand, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after quitting her party. She is the wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda.

She joined the BJP in the presence of state party chief Babulal Marandi. The Singhbhum MP was reportedly unhappy with alliances forged by the Congress party in the state, they added. Earlier she was a member of the Jai Bharat Samanta Party which was founded by her husband Madhu Koda in 2009.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and its allies won 12 out of the 14 seats in Jharkhand. Geeta Koda joined the Congress in 2018. A two-time MLA from the Jagannathpur assembly constituency, Geeta Koda joined the Congress in the presence of top party leaders, including then party president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

She has reportedly sent in her resignation to the Party high command. Geeta Koda won the Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat. She was the only MLA from Jai Bharat Samanta Party as she won Jaganathpur constituency in the 2009 Jharkhand Assembly elections. In November 2018, However, the party was merged with Congress.
