Congress Takes Early Lead Over BRS in Telangana Elections, Celebrations Erupt

In the unfolding drama of Telangana Election Results 2023, Congress supporters jubilantly celebrate as their party takes a lead over the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). According to the Election Commission of India’s official data, Congress, led by TPCC president Revanth Reddy, is ahead on 51 seats, while BRS leads on 29, BJP on 6, and CPI on 1, as counting progresses.

The majority mark for victory in the 119-seat assembly is 60.

Outside the residence of state party chief Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad, Congress supporters set off fireworks and raised triumphant slogans, expressing their enthusiasm for the unfolding electoral developments.

In a surprising twist, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is trailing behind state Congress president A Revanth Reddy by over 2,000 votes after the initial round of counting.

Since the formation of the state in 2014, BRS, with KCR as its chief minister, has held power. However, the current trends indicate a shift in the political landscape.

According to Election Commission data, State Congress chief Revanth Reddy is leading from the Kodangal seat, while other prominent candidates like Gaddam Vinod and Murali Naik Bhukya are leading from Bellampalli and Mahabubabad, respectively, in the first round of counting.

Reacting to the trends, BJP MP K Laxman remarked, “In Telangana, people were wanting a change. Corruption by BRS, dynasty politics, and appeasement politics were the three main issues that affected people. In the initial count, Congress is leading in many places. But I believe that the BJP will play an important role.”

BRS MP K. Keshava Rao, while congratulating Congress for the early lead, stated that the party is fighting a lone battle, expecting support from BJP and AIMIM if needed.

The Telangana election results carry significant weight for Congress as it gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A triumph in Karnataka and Telangana would solidify its presence in the South.

As the counting progresses, the fate of 2,290 candidates from 109 parties, including national and regional entities, will be revealed. The results will provide insights into the political dynamics of the region, with a clear picture expected to emerge by noon. In 2018, BRS won 88 out of 119 seats, securing a 47.4% vote share, with the Congress trailing behind with 19 seats.
