Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police apprehended two alleged drug peddlers and successfully confiscated a staggering 29,000 Yaba tablets, valued at ₹7.25 crore, during a meticulously planned operation on Thursday night. The operation, spearheaded by DIG (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, unfolded in the Katahbari area under the jurisdiction of Gorchuk police station in Guwahati.
The breakthrough operation was initiated based on confidential information that prompted the STF team to take swift action. As the team descended upon the Katahbari area, a hotspot for illicit activities, the law enforcement officers raided a rented house linked to the suspected drug peddlers.
Providing insights into the operation, DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta stated, “During the operation, we recovered and seized 29,000 Yaba tablets at the Katahbari area under Gorchuk police station in Guwahati city. We arrested two persons from the rented house of the peddlers.”
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Mujakkir Hussain, a resident of Katahbari, and Saiful Islam from Bhella under the Barpeta police station. The arrests signify a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.
This successful operation not only highlights the effectiveness of the STF’s intelligence-driven approach but also underscores the commitment of Assam Police in combating the menace of drug trafficking.
