Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured their third consecutive home victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, maintaining their unbeaten record on their home turf in the 2024 IPL season. In a classic Chepauk encounter, CSK outplayed the high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), clinching a convincing 7-wicket win on Monday, April 8. The match showcased CSK’s prowess in navigating the slow conditions at Chepauk, while handing KKR their first defeat of the season.
Despite losing Phil Salt on the first ball of the match, KKR got off to a decent start, reaching 56/1 in the powerplay. However, the momentum shifted dramatically once CSK’s spinners came into play. Ravindra Jadeja’s crucial wickets of Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Sunil Narine in the same over, followed by the dismissal of Venkatesh Iyer, rattled KKR’s batting lineup. CSK’s spinners continued to dominate, restricting KKR to a below-par total of 137.

In response, CSK followed the script of starting strong in the powerplay, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra providing a solid foundation. Although Vaibhav Arora dismissed Ravindra early on, Daryl Mitchell and Gaikwad forged a match-winning partnership of 70 runs. Gaikwad’s fifty and a brisk knock from Shivam Dube ensured CSK’s comfortable victory, with ex-captain MS Dhoni making a special appearance to see his team over the line. The win reaffirms CSK’s dominance at Chepauk, while KKR will look to bounce back in their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
