Cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ brewing over Bay of Bengal, likely to intensify today

An alert has been issued regarding cyclonic storm Hamoon, a name given by Iran, in the Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for some states including Odisha and said that its impact will be visible.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for some states and said that the deep depression brewing over the Bay of Bengal may turn into a cyclonic storm by today. After it turns into a cyclonic storm, this cyclonic storm will be called ‘Hamoon’, a name given by Iran. The weather system was located over west-central Bay of Bengal after the storm moved north-eastwards on Sunday night.

“It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours as it moves north-eastwards and as a deep depression hits the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the evening of October 25,” the IMD’s morning bulletin said. is likely to be exceeded.”

The system is currently located in west-central Bay of Bengal after moving northeastwards on Sunday night. It lies centered around 400 km from Odisha’s Paradip and 550 km south-southwest of Digha in West Bengal.

“It is likely to escalate into a cyclonic storm over the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around October 25 evening as a deep depression,” the IMD’s morning bulletin said.

Warning issued for Odisha
The Odisha government has given directives to all district collectors to be prepared for any situation and has asked the administration to evacuate people from low-lying areas in case of heavy rains. The Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development has advised fishermen not to venture into the deep sea.

There is a possibility of rain in the coastal districts of the state for the next two days. The IMD said light to moderate rain is likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and coastal districts of West Bengal.
