Terrorist attack on church and police post in Dagestan, Russia; 15 people including priest died

Dagestan Terrorist Attack: A terrorist attack has taken place in the southern Dagestan region of Russia, where armed terrorists opened fire on two Orthodox churches, a Jewish synagogue and a police post on Sunday. More than 15 police officers and several civilians, including a priest, are reported dead in this attack. This information has been given by the officials.

Governor of Dagestan Sergei Melikov issued a statement regarding the attack through a video on Monday. Dagestan’s governor said gunmen opened fire on two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a police post in two cities. Police personnel killed four gunmen in Makhachkala and two in Derbent, officials said. Following the attack, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday have been declared mourning days in the region.

According to the report, armed terrorists slit the throat of priest ‘Father Nikolay’ in the church of Derbent, while the security guard was shot dead. The head of the ‘Dagestan Lights’ police department was among the law enforcement officers killed in the attack.

Quoting sources, it was said that an official from Dagestan has been detained over the involvement of his sons in the attacks. Melikov claimed, without any evidence, that the attacks were probably planned abroad.
