New Delhi: As a dense fog envelops Northern India, travelers are advised to stay updated on their flight and train schedules. Delhi Airport has already reported delays in at least 35 flights, with more potential disruptions on the horizon.
The airport’s official advisory urged passengers to verify flight statuses with their respective airlines. “While operations persist at Delhi Airport, non-CAT III compliant flights may experience delays. We regret any inconvenience and advise travelers to liaise with their airlines for timely updates,” shared Delhi Airport on X, formerly known as Twitter. The Flight Information Display System highlighted disruptions in about 110 domestic and international flights.
Northern India awakened to foggy conditions, significantly reducing visibility levels. In Delhi, visibility plummeted to a mere 50 meters, accompanied by a chilling temperature of 7 degrees Celsius. Such conditions extended to other regions, with cities like Patiala, Lucknow, and Prayagraj recording extremely low visibility of 25 meters. Alarmingly, Amritsar faced near-zero visibility.
The dense fog not only impacted air travel but also disrupted rail services. The Northern Railway confirmed delays for approximately 25 trains bound for Delhi, warning travelers of potential 2-7 hour delays.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for “dense to very dense fog conditions” spanning Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
Palam observatory near the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded visibility levels at 125 meters and 50 meters, respectively. However, ground reports from commuters indicated even poorer visibility in several parts of Delhi.
As the dense fog continues to pose challenges across Northern India, authorities advise citizens to exercise caution and remain updated on travel advisories.
