More than 60 schools in Delhi receive bomb threat via email; BDS, police on spot

New Delhi: In a distressing incident, more than 60 schools in Delhi and one school in Noida received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday morning, prompting mass evacuations, police officials said.

According to the Delhi Police, the bomb threat was received by Delhi Public School’s (DPS) Dwarka and Vasant Kunj units, Mother Marry School in East Mayur Vihar, Sanskriti School, Amity School in Pushp Vihar and DAV School in South West Delhi, among others. DPS Noida also received a similar bomb threat.

The school premises were evacuated, and the students were sent home immediately after the threat was received, sources.

DPS Dwarka received the bomb threat at 6 am, following which personnel from the Delhi Police, several fire tenders and the bomb disposal squad (BDS) were rushed to the spot.

A thorough search was conducted at the school premises but nothing suspicious was found, the police officials added.

Similarly, searches were also conducted at the campuses of Mother Mary School, Sanskriti School, Amity School and DPS Noida.

In a statement, the principal of DPS Noida said, “Delhi Public School, Noida has received an email that threatens the safety and security of the students. As a precautionary measure, we are sending the students back home immediately”.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the IP addresses of the emails through which the threat was sent were from outside India. The Delhi Police suspected that the IP address could be masked through a VPN.

An investigation is underway in connection with the matter.

“Teams are searching, nothing suspicious has been found yet. The IP from which the email came is being investigated. The email was received early in the morning,” DCP Dwarka said in a statement to the media.

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Atishi said that government officials were in constant touch with the Delhi Police and school authorities. She also requested the parents not to panic.

Earlier in February this year, Delhi Public School, RK Puram, received a bomb threat call. A search operation by the police did not reveal anything suspicious.
