Delhi High Court restrains unauthorised broadcast of TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss 17’

Viacom 18 Media Private Limited has filed a case in Delhi High Court regarding this matter. The court has said that Bigg Boss program is very popular and if its upcoming and past seasons are telecasted illegally, it would be an infringement of the plaintiff's copyright on telecast and re-production of the programme.

New Delhi:The Delhi High Court has banned unauthorized streaming of reality television show Bigg Boss, saying the rise of websites illegally streaming its content will lead to piracy. According to reports from sources, the court has issued an order to restrict the unlawful distribution of the show’s content, stating that the proliferation of websites illegally broadcasting the program poses a significant piracy threat. This piracy, the court emphasized, could result in substantial financial losses for the show’s producers, the plaintiff in this case.

Viacom 18 Media Private Limited has filed a case in Delhi High Court regarding this matter. The court has said that Bigg Boss program is very popular and if its upcoming and past seasons are telecasted illegally, it would be an infringement of the plaintiff’s copyright on telecast and re-production of the programme.

Earlier, the plaintiff told the court that he broadcasts the program in many formats including Hindi on his channel and OTT (digital) platform, but many websites named ‘Bigg Boss’ are broadcasting the program unauthorized and without license, due to which he Having to suffer financial loss.

Justice Pratibha M Singh, in a recent interim order, said that defendants number one to five are restrained from telecasting any episode of the program ‘Bigg Boss’ including the already telecasted episode and the future telecasted episode. .

The judge said that if the plaintiff finds any website by the name of ‘Bigg Boss’ or any other website which broadcasts the plaintiff’s program then an application should be filed to implead them. In this case, the court said that if such websites which also use the name ‘Bigg Boss’ are allowed, it will lead to ‘piracy’ and unauthorized broadcasting, which will cause huge loss to the plaintiff.

Let us tell you that Bigg Boss show is hosted by famous actor Salman Khan. He has been hosting it for the last several years. The matter regarding illegal telecast of this show had reached Delhi High Court, where the court has now banned its illegal telecast.
