Delhi Liquor Scam: Manish Sisodia gets a big blow from the court in the CBI case, judicial custody extended till May 15

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Rouse Avenue Court has extended the judicial custody of former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia till May 15 in money laundering case. The hearing on framing of charges against the accused in the CBI case has been postponed till May 15 as per the direction of Delhi High Court.

Recently, on April 30 rejecting the bail plea of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sisodia, the court had said that Manish Sisodia and other co-accused are trying their best to delay and stall the trial of the Delhi Excise case. His bail was first rejected on March 31, 2023. On April 28, the trial court rejected his bail application in the ED case.

In the alleged scam, the head of the Delhi Government i.e. Arvind Kejriwal is also lodged in Tihar. First AAP leader Manish Sisodia and then Sanjay Singh were also arrested in the liquor policy case. Sisodia has been in jail since 26 February 2023, while Sanjay Singh was arrested by ED on 4 October 2023. On 2 April 2024, the Supreme Court granted bail to Sanjay Singh. He came out on 3 April after staying in Tihar for 6 months.

A few days ago, the Rouse Avenue Court had reserved the decision on Sisodia’s bail plea in the Delhi liquor scam case. During the hearing in front of Judge Kaveri Baveja in the court, the CBI had said that Sisodia is the kingpin of the scam, so he should not be granted bail. The CBI said that if Sisodia is granted bail, he can use his influence to influence the evidence and witnesses.
