Delhi Man Scammed of ₹2.25 Crore in Fake Rajya Sabha Seat Promise; One Suspect Arrested

Delhi: A 63-year-old man fell victim to a scam wherein he was duped of ₹2.25 crore by two individuals offering him a seat in the Rajya Sabha. The fraudsters went to the extent of forging the President of India’s signature to gain the victim’s trust. While one suspect has been apprehended, the other is currently in police custody.

Details of the Fraud

The incident unfolded on April 25 when the victim restrained one of the conmen at a banquet hall in Adhchini, subsequently alerting the authorities and filing a complaint at the Kishangarh police station. The victim, identified as a social worker, had initially been introduced to the suspects, Nanak Dass and Naveen Kumar, at a residence in Vithal Bhai Patel House.

Modus Operandi

Nanak Dass, purportedly the chief priest of a temple in Kishangarh, introduced the victim to Naveen Kumar, who posed as a protocol officer to the President of India. Over several meetings, the suspects convinced the victim that he was being considered for a Rajya Sabha seat. To bolster their credibility, they presented a forged birthday letter bearing the President’s name and letterhead.

Financial Loss and Subsequent Action

The victim was coerced into paying ₹2.25 crore to secure the promised seat. However, after receiving the funds, the suspects ceased communication. Realizing he had been deceived, the victim orchestrated the apprehension of one of the suspects at the banquet hall.

Ongoing Investigation

Both suspects, Naveen Kumar and Nanak Dass, are currently under interrogation, with Dass in police custody pending formal arrest. Authorities continue to probe the intricate details of the scam to ensure justice is served.
