Delhi police sub-inspector dies in Pragati tunnel accident

NEW DELHI: An official said that a Delhi Police sub-inspector died as ramming into a median barricade in the Pragati Maidan tunnel in national capital. The deceased was identified as N.K. Pavitharan. He was posted in East Delhi district's crime team.

NEW DELHI: An official said that a Delhi Police sub-inspector died as ramming into a median barricade in the Pragati Maidan tunnel in national capital. The deceased was identified as N.K. Pavitharan. He was posted in East Delhi district’s crime team.

Examining CCTV footage,Police are investigating the cause of the incident. In CCTV footage shows an auto was seen near the SI’s scooter at the time of the accident. He was going from India Gate to IP Extension through the tunnel when his scooter lost balance and he fell on the road.

Giving details about this incident, a senior police officer said, the accident occurred when Pavithran was turning left into the tunnel after the Y-junction separating the roads leading to Vikas Marg and Akshardham Road.

After receiving information about this incident, Police officers and an ambulance rushed to the spot and found him in a critical condition. Tunnel marshals rushed to the spot too and tried to rescue him.

Police said,”He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead ” Police said no foul play was suspected and a case was registered under sections 279 (rash driving on a public way) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.

Reacting on this incident, A PWD official said,”There was no problem of water leakage inside the tunnel and the accident did not occur because of that. The tunnel is digitally monitored at all times and we informed police as soon as the accident occurred.”
