Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia congratulates Shelly Oberoi after wins Delhi Mayor election

New Delhi: Deputy CM Manish Sisodia congratulated the newly elected Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi on Aam Aadmi Party's victory in Delhi MCD elections and congratulated all AAP councilors and party workers. Manish Sisodia tweeted that the gangsters lost and the people won. At the same time, he congratulated all the workers on becoming mayor of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi Municipal Corporation.

New Delhi: Deputy CM Manish Sisodia congratulated the newly elected Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi on Aam Aadmi Party’s victory in Delhi MCD elections and congratulated all AAP councilors and party workers. Manish Sisodia tweeted that the gangsters lost and the people won. At the same time, he congratulated all the workers on becoming mayor of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Shaili Oberoi got 150 votes and BJP candidate Rekha Gupta got 116 votes in the election for the post of mayor. The voting for the Delhi Mayor election started around 11:30 am. Voting lasted for more than 2 hours. A total of 10 nominated MPs, 14 nominated MLAs and 241 elected councilors out of 250 voted in the mayoral election.

There are total 250 wards in Delhi Municipal Corporation. Apart from this, 14 nominated MLAs and 7 Lok Sabha and 3 Rajya Sabha MPs voted today. Out of this, 9 councilors of Congress boycotted the election. A total of 266 votes were cast. The magic number was 134. Aam Aadmi Party won 134 councilors in the corporation elections, 1 independent councilor was also with Aam Aadmi Party.

Apart from this, 13 MLAs and 3 Rajya Sabha MPs belonged to Aam Aadmi Party. Total figure 150. BJP won 104 councilors. Congress had won 9 councilors but they did not participate in the mayoral election.

After three unsuccessful attempts by the municipal body to hold elections to the post of mayor, the elections were held once again on Wednesday after the Supreme Court order. AAP’s Shaili Oberoi and BJP’s Rekha Gupta were the main contenders for the mayor’s post. At the same time, Iqbal from AAP and Kamal Bagri from BJP are contesting for the post of Deputy Mayor.

On February 17, the Supreme Court had ordered a notice to be issued within 24 hours to fix the date for the election of mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee. The order was issued after hearing the petition of candidate Shaili Oberoi.
