Earthquake: 6.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Tajikistan near China border

Tajikistan: Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Afghanistan and Tajikistan on Thursday. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.8 on the Richter scale. Not only this, the effect of the earthquake was also seen in the areas adjacent to the border of China.

Earthquake occurred in Afghanistan on Thursday morning at 06.07 minutes. The epicenter of the earthquake is located 265 km from Faizabad. According to the USGS, The earthquake struck in Tajikistan around 5:37 am local time at a depth of about 20.5 km.The impact of the earthquake has been seen near the border with China.

According to the USGS, “little or no population” will be exposed to landslides from the quake.Twenty minutes after the initial quake, another aftershock of 5.0-magnitude hit the area.

China Earthquake Networks Center said the quake was 7.2 magnitude and 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep. Preliminary seismic measurements by different agencies often differ. However, Chinese state media CCTV said that the earthquake was about 7.3 magnitude and occurred near the border of China’s Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region.

The tremors in Delhi-NCR came at a time when earthquakes have wreaked havoc in Turkey and Syria this month. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6. More than 46000 people have died in both the countries so far. More than 2 million apartments were destroyed by the earthquake in Turkey alone. The epicenter of the earthquake was on the Turkey-Syria border. In such a situation, Syria was also devastated by the earthquake. Thousands of people are still missing.
