New Delhi: The Election Commission has strongly condemned BJP candidate Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay for making objectionable remarks on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Also, the BJP candidate has been banned from campaigning for the next 24 hours from 5 pm on May 21. The Commission has also warned the BJP leader to be careful in his public statements under the Model Code of Conduct.

Let us tell you that while addressing a public meeting in Haldia on May 15, BJP candidate Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had made indecent remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. TMC had given a complaint to the Election Commission demanding action. The Election Commission had sent a show cause notice to Gangopadhyay, seeking his reply by 5 pm on May 20.

Gangopadhyay is the fourth politician to be sent a notice for indecent remarks against women in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. At the same time, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Srinet had also made indecent remarks against Mamata Banerjee and Kangana Ranaut respectively, after which the Election Commission responded by issuing a show cause notice to both of them.
