Former UP minister and BJP MLA Ashutosh Tandon dies at 63; Defence Minister condoles demise

BJP MLA and Former Uttar Pradesh Minister Ashutosh Tandon passed away in Lucknow today (November 9), following a prolonged illness (cancer). He was the son of former Member of Parliament (MP) and veteran BJP leader Lalji Tandon and a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government from 2017 to 2022.

Lucknow: BJP MLA and Former Uttar Pradesh Minister Ashutosh Tandon passed away in Lucknow today (November 9), following a prolonged illness (cancer). He was the son of former Member of Parliament (MP) and veteran BJP leader Lalji Tandon and a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government from 2017 to 2022.

Ashutosh Tandon, popularly known as ‘Gopal ji’, was in Medanta Hospital for the past few months after he developed a lung infection and then dengue.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family on social media. In this hour of grief, I express my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family. Om Shanti!” Singh said.

He said that his political career was dedicated to serving the people of Lucknow and he also played an important role in strengthening the party and said that the work done by him for the development of Lucknow and the state will always be remembered.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a post on X in Hindi, said, “The demise of Ashutosh Tandon ‘Gopal ji’ is extremely sad. He will always be remembered as a popular and hardworking politician.”
