Lucknow : The state’s basic education department has initiated a rigorous campaign to address the issue of unapproved schools currently operating. These schools, including those found operating after their de-recognition, may face fines of up to ₹1 lakh, along with other legal consequences, as per directives from the Directorate of Basic Education to all basic education officers (BEOs). In case of continued violations, these schools may be subjected to daily penalties of up to ₹10,000.
As part of this campaign, the authority has called for comprehensive reports on the actions taken by districts by November 22.
It’s important to note that the state manages primary, junior high, and aided junior high schools. In accordance with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, no school can operate without obtaining official recognition from the government.
The joint director of education (Basic), Ganesh Kumar, has issued a letter to BEOs, instructing them to launch a robust campaign against all unapproved schools. Additionally, all block education officers are required to furnish certificates to the directorate, confirming that no schools within their jurisdiction are operating without recognition. They must also provide a list of schools that require action to be taken, all by November 22.
