Heatwave rips through several cities, including UP, Delhi as mercury soars near 50 degree mark

New Delhi: The extreme heat in North India has made life difficult for people. The temperature has broken old records at many places, including Churu in Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and many areas of Uttar Pradesh, where the temperature was recorded near and above 50 degrees on Tuesday.

The heat in Delhi broke the record of 14 years. Here the temperature was recorded at 49.9 degrees in Mungeshpur, 49.9 degrees in Narela, 49.8 degrees in Najafgarh, 49.6 degrees in Jafarpur, 49.5 degrees in Pusa, 49.6 degrees in Ayanagar and 49.5 degrees in the Ridge area. The maximum temperature in Jhansi, UP on Tuesday was 49 degrees. The temperature was 48.6 degrees in Agra and 47.6 degrees in Varanasi.

According to the Jaipur-based Meteorological Center, Churu was the hottest place in the country on Tuesday, May 28. The maximum temperature recorded here was 50.5 degrees, which is the highest this season. Earlier on June 1, 2019, the mercury was recorded at 50.8 degrees. Apart from this, 49.4 degrees were recorded in Ganganagar, 49 degrees in Pilani and Jhunjhunu, 48.3 degrees in Bikaner, 48.2 degrees in Kota, 48 degrees in Jaisalmer and 46.6 degrees in Jaipur.

The maximum temperature recorded at Mungeshpur weather center was 48.9 degrees Celsius, which is eight degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.6 degrees Celsius, which is one degree more than the season’s average. These areas are recording the highest maximum temperatures on a daily basis among all weather stations.

The capital remained on red alert on Tuesday and heat wave has been going on here for the last three days. Explaining the situation, Mahesh Palawat, vice president of meteorology and climate change at Skymet Weather, said, “In open areas with bare land, radiation is high. Direct sunlight and lack of shade make these areas exceptionally hot. ”

Palawat said that wind direction also plays an important role. “When the wind blows from the west, it affects these areas first. Since these are the outskirts, the temperature here rises rapidly,” he said. He said the temperature will go up to 46 or 46.5 degrees Celsius and may reach 47 degrees, but in a standard station like Safdarjung, from where we measure the standard temperature of the capital, it will not reach 49 degrees Celsius.
