Hong Kong: On Tuesday, authorities said that a ground worker at the Hong Kong airport was dead after he fell from a tow-truck and was run over by an aircraft, a rare incident that prompted an arrest for dangerous driving.

At around 3 am on Tuesday, Police said that they received a call from airport staff that a man had been found unconscious at West Apron, according to the media reports. The unnamed victim, a 34-year-old Jordanian national working in Hong Kong.

Police said that he is believed to have been riding in the passenger seat of a tow truck when he fell out of the vehicle and hit by the plane being pulled behind it. In a statement, the force said, emergency workers found the man lying on a taxiway with multiple serious injuries in the early hours of Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Airport Authority earlier said the victim was an employee of China Aircraft Services responsible for aircraft towing. The authority said,”It is suspected that the seat belt was left unfastened while the staff was working on the (vehicle).”

Meanwhile, police said that the 60-year-old truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and was being detained for further questioning. He added that he has been detained pending an investigation. China Aircraft Services did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for comment.
