IIT Kanpur Collaborates with UP Government to Establish Agri-Business Incubators

In a significant move towards transforming Uttar Pradesh's agricultural landscape, the state agricultural research and education department, during a transformative agricultural workshop at IIT Kanpur, has entrusted the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) with the task of establishing four agri-business incubators across the state.

This collaborative effort between SIIC IIT Kanpur and the state government underscores Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to driving positive change and fostering sustainable agricultural practices for a prosperous future.

Prominent figures including Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of Agriculture Raj Shekhar, and Special Secretary of Agricultural Research and Education Ajay Kumar Dwivedi were present at the event. ACS Devesh Chaturvedi emphasized the vital role of the agricultural sector in India’s goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy and a developed nation by 2047.

He stressed the need for startups in this sector and acknowledged SIIC, IIT Kanpur, as an invaluable mentor in establishing agri-business incubators, which could significantly enhance farmer’s livelihoods and boost the state’s economy.

Acknowledging this responsibility, Prof Ankush Sharma, Professor-in-Charge at SIIC, IIT Kanpur, expressed the pivotal opportunity this collaboration provides for meaningful partnerships with agricultural universities. These partnerships will aid in the establishment of agri-business incubation centers, fostering innovation and growth in the agricultural sector.

The workshop convened representatives from various agricultural universities across the state, including Kanpur, Banda, Ayodhya, Meerut, and Prayagraj. Participants engaged in discussions focusing on setting up innovation hubs, emphasizing collaboration and strategic planning. SIIC IIT Kanpur experts conducted informative sessions covering essential aspects such as project report preparation, incubation system functioning, and critical considerations.

The event also showcased innovative solutions from agricultural startups like LCB Fertilisers Pvt Ltd, AgroNXT Pvt Ltd, Saptkrishi Pvt Ltd, and Invoviron Industries Pvt Ltd. This collaborative initiative holds the promise of revolutionizing Uttar Pradesh’s agricultural sector and fostering economic growth.
