IMD: Heatwave prevails in 6 states including Bihar and Bengal, Orange alert issued

Dr. Naresh Kumar, senior scientist of the Indian Meteorological Department, said that Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal will see an increase in temperature for the next few days.

New Delhi: India is sizzling under heatwave conditions. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert due to the ongoing heat wave in Bihar and West Bengal for the last several days. According to the guidelines of the National Disaster Management Authority in both these states, an advisory has been issued to the common people to reduce their exposure to sunlight.

People have been instructed that the elderly should not come out of their homes. It has been said by the Meteorological Department that by Wednesday, 8 states of the country will come under the grip of heatwave. An advisory has also been issued by the Meteorological Department regarding the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. Heatwave has been predicted in Vidarbha and East Uttar Pradesh between June 7 and 9.

Dr. Naresh Kumar, Senior Scientist of the Indian Meteorological Department, said that the heat wave has been going on continuously for the last few days in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The heatwave will continue in these two states for the next 4 to 5 days. Severe heat wave is going on in some areas of Bihar where the temperature has gone up to 6.5 degree Celsius above the average. We have issued Orange Alert for Bihar and West Bengal.

Dr. Naresh Kumar said that along with the scorching heat in West Bengal, the humidity level is also very high. There is also a possibility of heatwave in Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema areas. In the areas of North West India also, the temperature is expected to increase by 2 to 4 degree Celsius from the average in the next 5 days.

Monsoon is delayed

Dr. RK Jenmani, senior scientist of the Indian Meteorological Department said that the monsoon has been affected by the cyclonic storm. Right now we cannot tell a definite time about when the monsoon will hit the Kerala coast. He said that due to cyclone Biperjoy in the Arabian Sea, there is a slight delay in the monsoon hitting the Kerala coast.

According to sources, in view of the heat crisis in the country, NTPC and other big power companies have decided to increase the power generation capacity of gas-based power plants.
