Imran Khan replaced by Gohar Ali Khan as Pak Tehreek-e-Insaf’s new chairman

Pakistan: On Saturday, A major political event has happened in Pakistan. Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan has been elected as the new president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in place of jailed Imran Khan. According to a report by Pakistan's ARY News, he has been elected to the post unopposed.

Pakistan: On Saturday, A major political event has happened in Pakistan. Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan has been elected as the new president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in place of jailed Imran Khan. According to a report by Pakistan’s News, he has been elected to the post unopposed.

Gohar Khan was nominated by the PTI founder for the top post a few days ago. PTI Chief Election Commissioner Niazullah Niaji while announcing the results said that Barrister Gohar was elected unopposed after today’s election. Niaji said that Umar Ayub Khan has been elected the Central General Secretary of PTI, while Ali Amin Gandapur and Dr.

Yasmin Rashid has been elected as the provincial president of the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab respectively. Similarly, incarcerated Haleem Adil Sheikh and Ali Amin Gandapur were elected unopposed party presidents of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces.

Earlier this week, Barrister Ali Zafar announced that party Chairman Imran Khan would not be contesting intra-party polls and Barrister Gohar Khan had been nominated for the slot of party chief,” news reported. This development was in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), following which the party held the elections today.

A central polling station was set up near the motorway toll plaza at Rano Garhi in Peshawar, where Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presiding officer Ali Zaman has arrived. PTI Senator Ali Zafar made the announcement in Islamabad.

Speaking to the media, Zafar said that the party chairmanship is temporary, as Imran Khan would return as the chairman of the party after his disqualification in the wake of the Toshakhana case is overturned. He further said that ex-premier had directed the party to hold intra-party polls. “PTI is Imran Khan and Imran Khan is PTI.”

He said that the number of voters registered for the election was more than 2 crore. “Voting can be done through an online app and ballot paper at the polling center in Peshawar,” Zaman said. Akbar S Babar, who is the founding member of PTI, has decided to challenge the intra-party election, as per the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), news reported.
