Shimla: Landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh killed five people, damaged several houses and threw life out of gear. Shops were washed away due to heavy rains in Manali and vehicles were washed away and agricultural land was damaged due to flash floods in Kullu, Kinnaur and Chamba.

Officials said all major rivers are in spate and the local meteorological office has issued a red alert on July 9 for extremely heavy rainfall (up to 204 mm) in 10 of the 12 districts, except the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti. more rain) is released.

According to the State Disaster Response Centre, there were 14 major incidents of landslides and 13 incidents of flash floods in the state in the last 36 hours. During this, more than 700 roads were closed.

Three members of a family were killed in a landslide in Kothgarh area of ​​Shimla district when a house collapsed, officials said. The deceased have been identified as Anil, his wife Kiran and son Swapnil.

In Kullu city too, a kutcha house was damaged by a landslide in which a woman died.

In another accident, a person was buried under the debris of a landslide on Saturday night at Katian in Chamba tehsil.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu expressed condolences and said that the district administration has been directed to provide immediate relief to the affected families.

All trains on the UNESCO heritage rail route between Shimla and Kalka have been canceled as landslides and uprooting of trees blocked the route at many places.
