Washington: Indian-origin foreign policy and national security expert Krystle Kaul, rooted in Kashmir, has declared her candidacy for the US House of Representatives from a Virginia Congressional district. Eyeing the 2024 election, Kaul could potentially become the second Indian-American woman in the House, following Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal.
Kaul, the first Kashmiri-origin person to run for Congress, plans to address core issues like public safety, education, and healthcare. Fluent in eight languages, she brings extensive experience from the Pentagon, think tanks, and the defense industry. The 10th Congressional District of Virginia, where Kaul is running, holds a significant Indian-American and South Asian population.
Her campaign promises prioritize education, healthcare affordability, and public safety. Kaul’s stance on national security includes a strong emphasis on counter-terrorism. Raised on stories of the Kashmir conflict, Kaul has devoted her studies to diplomacy, negotiation, and political science.
Kaul’s decision to run comes after Democratic Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton announced she won’t seek re-election. Kaul’s promises align with the concerns of the 10th Congressional District, which includes areas with high concentrations of Indian Americans. In her late thirties, Kaul emphasizes her commitment to creating safe neighborhoods, schools, and communities.
