Jammu & Kashmir: 3 jawan injured after army vehicle attacked by terrorists in Poonch district

Srinagar: On Thursday, an official said that three jawans were injured after terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. There was now immediate report of any casualty, the officials added.

According to the information, this was the second terror attack on the army in the region in less than a month. The attack took place in the Thanamandi area of the district. PRO Defence Jammu said,”A joint operation was launched in the general area Dera Ki Gali (DKG) last night, contact was established today evening and an encounter is still in progress. Further details being ascertained.”

An official added that additional forces have been rushed to the spot and further details are awaited. Reports said reinforcements have been sent to the area where the ambush happened. Firing has been going on, reports said. The spot where the incident occurred is a dense forest area and deployment of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was there.

Sources said the army truck was ambushed at Dera Ki Gali, also known as DKG, in Surankote area of Poonch. The vehicle came under attack in the Savni area on the Thanamandi-Surankote road. It was carrying jawans from Bafliaz area, where a cordon-and-search operation against terrorists has been underway since Wednesday.

Ghatak QRT and special forces have been called up for operations and firing is still underway. Last month, soldiers including two Captains were killed in action after the army and its special forces launched an anti-terror operation in Kalakote of Rajouri. The region has become a hotbed of terrorists and a site of major attacks on the army over the past few years.
