Jammu & Kashmir: CBI searches at 37 locations over irregularities in finance dept recruitment exam

Srinagar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting searches at 37 places in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the paper leak in the Accounts Assistant Recruitment Examination of the Finance Department. The official said searches are also going on in other areas, including Udhampur, Rajapuri and Doda. The CBI source gave this information on Friday.

In November last year too, the probe agency had conducted raids at 14 places in Jammu and Kashmir over alleged irregularities in the Accounts Assistant recruitment exam conducted by the Jammu Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

The investigating agency has also registered an FIR against about 20 people for alleged irregularities in the examination conducted for the recruitment of Accounts Assistant in the Finance Department. These people include former JKSSB member Neelam Khajuria, Section Officer Anju Raina and Medical Officer Karnail Singh.

It may be noted that around 1.36 lakh (70 per cent) candidates had appeared in the written examination conducted by JKSSB on March 6 last year for 972 Accounts Assistant posts in the Union Territory. Its result was published on 21 April.

The result of the examination shows that maximum number of candidates were selected from Jammu, Kathua and Reasi districts. After this there were allegations of paper leak and other irregularities. After this, the Jammu and Kashmir administration canceled the appointments of Financial Accounts Assistants (FAA) in the month of August and ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the selection process. The administration had assured all the candidates that those responsible for the alleged discrepancies would not be spared and merit would not be compromised.

After allegations regarding malpractice in the examination, the Jammu and Kashmir government had formed an inquiry committee to investigate it. The report of the committee had revealed the alleged conspiracy between the officials of JKSSB, a private company based in Bengaluru, the beneficiary candidates and others. It was also alleged that the JKSSB violated rules in handing over the task of setting the question paper to a Bengaluru-based private company.
