Telangana: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC, K Kavitha, raised concerns on Saturday, accusing the Congress-led government in Telangana of lacking sincerity in conducting a caste survey. Despite the Legislative Assembly passing a resolution for the survey, Kavitha emphasized the absence of statutory backing, raising doubts about the survey’s legal scrutiny.
Expressing her apprehensions, Kavitha highlighted the potential false hopes being raised among the backward classes due to the lack of a legal framework supporting the caste survey. She urged the government to learn from the experiences of Bihar and Karnataka and swiftly enact legislation to provide the necessary legal foundation for the survey.
When questioned about the speculated alliance between the BJP and BRS for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Kavitha expressed her lack of awareness on the matter. She asserted that it is beyond her understanding or capacity to comment on the potential alliance.
In its Friday session, the Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a resolution endorsing a comprehensive door-to-door household caste survey. The survey aims to strategize and implement various plans for the advancement of backward classes, SC, and ST citizens, along with other weaker sections in the state. However, Kavitha’s concerns highlight the need for legal backing to ensure the survey’s effectiveness and credibility.
