Kanpur: A horrific case of ragging has come to light from Kanpur. Here, a minor student preparing for competitive examinations was harassed and beaten by a group of senior students for not paying money. Police arrested six people on Monday after some videos of the incident went viral. The accused have been identified as Tanay Chaurasia, Abhishek Kumar Verma, Yogesh Vishwakarma, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Hargovind Tiwari and Shiva Tripathi.
According to the police, the victim girl had come to Kanpur from Etawah to join coaching classes for competitive examinations. After this he came in contact with some senior people in the coaching center who gave him Rs 20,000 to play online betting games. After the student lost the money, his seniors pressured him to give Rs 2 lakh in return. When the student could not return the money, they locked him in the room and beat him repeatedly.

The accused also made a video of the incident, in which they were seen kicking and punching the student along with his private parts. In one video, an accused was shown trying to burn a student’s hair, while in another video, he was shown stripping the student naked and tying a brick on his private parts.
The attack continued for several days after which the student told his parents. The student’s parents later complained to the police in Etawah. However, the student’s family said that the accused were released by the police after giving them a warning. After a video of the student went viral on social media on May 4, Kanpur police swung into action and arrested the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police RS Gautam as saying that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 147, 34, 343, 323, 500, 506 and 307 of the IPC. IT Act has also been imposed on him under the provisions of POCSO Act and Section 67 (B). According to the police, these people form a gang and live in a flat, where they trap innocent students and threaten and blackmail them.
