Karnataka: Assistant loco pilot arrested for stealing railway passengers’ goods to pay off debt

An Assistant Loco Pilot who was struggling to pay off his debt has gone to jail by resorting to theft to pay off his debt. Arsikere Railway Police conducted a massive operation and arrested Assistant Loco Pilot Padi Swaraj and seized items worth 3 lakhs 33 thousand 489. The Railway Police has arrested the accused and is interrogating him.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru cops has unearthed robbery incidents happening for the past few months, the theft cases have increased in trains in Arsikere Railway Police Station Limits of Hassan district. After a thorough investigation, the police have managed to crack at least five cases by arresting an assistant loco pilot working for South Western Railway. During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he was in debt and when he was unable to repay it he started stealing items from the passengers.

The Railway Police has arrested the accused and is interrogating him.

At least five cases of theft were registered at Arsikere Railway Police Station limits in the past few months. The increasing theft cases had caused a headache for the police as they were unable to catch the accused despite the increased deployment of police personnel on trains.

In order to pay off the debt, Swaraj resorted to stealing the belongings of railway passengers. Just a year ago, Pudi Swaraj, who had married a girl from a very poor family, had taken a loan of around 13 lakhs. Mai was struggling to pay her huge debt. At this time, a passenger traveling from Bangalore to Udupi had his laptop bag stolen while he was sleeping. Gonda Gapadi Swaraj’s handiwork has been revealed in the investigation of this case.

Suspicious, the police checked Pudi Swaraj’s trolley bag and found mobile phones and jewelery in his bag. When asked about it, at first Swaraj made up a story that it was his wife’s jewelry. Later, he confessed to stealing during police interrogation. A total of 5 cases have come to light from the interrogation of the accused. A total of 3 lakh 33 thousand 489 worth of items were seized.

Since he was in dire need of money, he started stealing valuables from passengers in the train. Police have found valuables worth Rs 3.33 lakh. The police is interrogating the accused and trying to find out whether he has hidden the goods at other places.
