Kerala: CPM leader dies after attacked with axe during temple festival in Kozhikode district

Kerala: On Friday, an official said that a local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was murdered during a temple festival at Cheriyapuram Temple in Kozhikode district of Kerala. He was 62-year-old.

Kerala: On Friday, an official said that a local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was murdered during a temple festival at Cheriyapuram Temple in Kozhikode district of Kerala. He was 62-year-old.

The tragic incident happened on Thursday night on the premises of Cheriyapuram Temple at Peruvattoor. The victim, identified as PV Satyanathan, was at the Cheriyapuram temple in Koyilandi during a scheduled musical event.

According to the information received by police, he was suddenly attacked with an axe, sustaining wounds to his back and neck. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died. A bandh has been declared in Koyilandy today in protest of the horrific act, informed CPI(M) district secretary P Mohanan.

The killers who fled from the spot have not been identified yet. Police said they suspected that personal enmity led to the attack on Satyanathan. According to reports, Sathyanathan was attacked around 10 pm while a musical event was underway as part of the festival.

While investigation is underway to nab the culprits and ascertain the motive behind the alleged murder. PV Sathyanathan served as the Secretary of CPI(M) Koyilandy Central Local Committee.
