Kerala Introduces ‘CSpace,’ the Nation’s Inaugural Government-Backed OTT Platform

In a groundbreaking move, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated ‘CSpace,’ the first government-backed Over-The-Top (OTT) platform in India. Managed by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), CSpace is set to feature a diverse array of content, including award-winning films, short films, documentaries, and other works of significant artistic and cultural value.

International Exposure for Festival Gems

CSpace intends to provide a platform for films that, despite earning acclaim at major international film festivals, may not have received widespread theatrical releases. With a curator panel comprising 60 eminent experts chosen by the KSFDC, content submitted to the platform will undergo rigorous evaluation. A three-member panel will determine the artistic merit of each piece before deciding its suitability for screening on CSpace.

Pay-Per-View Model and Revenue Sharing

Operating on a pay-per-view basis, CSpace allows users to access films for a nominal fee of Rs. 75, with even more affordable rates for short films. Notably, half of the user payment for each content piece goes directly to its creator, providing a platform that not only showcases but also financially supports artistic endeavors.

Initial Content Lineup and Accessibility

In its inaugural phase, CSpace will make available 42 films, including 35 feature films, six documentaries, and one short film for public streaming. The platform is accessible for download on both Android and iOS devices.

KSFDC’s Vision for Global Impact

Chairman of KSFDC and renowned filmmaker, Shaji N Karun, highlighted CSpace’s mission to showcase distinctive Malayalam films with global potential. Expressing the desire to influence audience preferences, Karun emphasized the platform’s role in shifting the focus from mainstream cinema to diverse and unique cinematic experiences.
