Basti : In a tragic turn of events, a land dispute in village Gausi Pur Derwa under Kalwari police station of Basti district resulted in the death of 67-year-old Ram Millan Choudhary. Here’s a fresh perspective on the incident that has shaken the community.

On Sunday, a group of armed miscreants stormed into the residence of Ram Millan Choudhary, brutally assaulting him, his son Vishal Chaudhary, and his sister Mala Devi. While Ram Millan succumbed to his injuries, Vishal and Mala Devi sustained severe injuries in the assault.

Official Response


Deputy Inspector General (DIG) RK Bharadwaj and Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopal Krishna visited the village to address the situation and assure the affected family of justice. Amid growing tension, heavy police deployment was initiated to prevent further escalation.

Legal Action


Following a written complaint filed by Mala Devi, the police swiftly took action, arresting three suspects, including Harishankar alias Ravan. The victim’s son Vishal and aunt Mala Devi are currently undergoing treatment at BRD Medical College Gorakhpur, with their condition reported as critical.

Root Cause: Land Dispute


Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between Ram Millan Choudhary and Harishankar alias Ravan. The situation escalated further after the SDM’s directive for land demarcation, with tensions reaching a boiling point ahead of the scheduled hearing on February 13.
