New Delhi: On Tuesday, Setback for Delhi CM, the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended till May 20 by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in the money laundering case related to the alleged liquor policy scam.
The bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta said,”We are very clear that we don’t want you to be performing official duties since it may have a cascading effect.” He added, “We do not want interference at all in the work of the government. It’s your wish that you want to continue as Chief Minister. Today, it is not a question of legality but propriety. We are considering the interim bail just because of elections, else we wouldn’t have considered it at all.”
On March 21,Arvind Kejriwal was arrested and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail under judicial custody. On April 15, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the ED and sought its response on Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest.
Earlier on April 9, the Delhi High Court had upheld Kejriwal’s arrest, saying there was nothing illegal in it and this was the only option left with the ED after repeated summons and his refusal to join the investigation.
