Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Akhilesh Yadav Eyed for Kannauj Seat, Potentially Replacing Tej Pratap Singh Yadav

In a significant development, the Samajwadi Party has hinted at a potential change in its Lok Sabha candidate from Kannauj, with speculation mounting that national president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav may step in to replace Tej Pratap Singh Yadav. The announcement comes shortly after Tej Pratap Singh Yadav’s candidature was unveiled for the upcoming elections, scheduled for the fourth phase on 13 May.

Akhilesh Yadav Eyed for Kannauj Seat

The decision to potentially field Akhilesh Yadav underscores the party’s strategic maneuvering as it seeks to fortify its position in the crucial constituency. Notably, Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, the grandson of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and son-in-law of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, was selected as the candidate from Kannauj in the initial announcement.

Meanwhile, the BJP has opted to field its sitting MP Subrata Pathak once again in Kannauj. Pathak secured a resounding victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, defeating SP’s prominent candidate Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav. The upcoming polls in Kannauj, scheduled alongside 12 other constituencies in the state, are poised to witness intense competition between the rival parties.

The potential candidacy of Akhilesh Yadav in Kannauj carries political significance, given his stature and past electoral success. With Uttar Pradesh boasting the highest number of Lok Sabha constituencies in the country, the unfolding dynamics in Kannauj hold implications for the broader electoral landscape.

As Uttar Pradesh gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the political landscape remains fluid, with parties vying to secure dominance in the state’s pivotal constituencies.
