Bihar Preps for Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Indo-Nepal Border Sealed Ahead of Third Phase Polling

Before the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar on May 7, officials shut down the border near Supaul district to keep things calm during the voting. This area, along with four others – Araria, Madhepura, Khagaria, and Jhanjharpur, is getting ready for the big vote.

JK Sharma, who’s in charge from the 45th BN Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Birpur, Bihar, said the Supaul district told them to close the border for 72 hours to make sure the voting goes smoothly and nothing bad happens. Important stuff like ambulances can still go through.

Supaul has six parts where people vote. The big contest is between JD(U) and Congress. The current MP, Dileshwar Kamait from JD(U), is up against RJD’s Chandrahas Chaupal. It’s a big deal because RJD hasn’t been in the race here for 25 years. Supaul usually sees a lot of people coming out to vote, like in 2014 and 2019.

Last time, in 2019, Dileshwar Kamait won with a lot more votes. But in 2014, Ranjeet Ranjan from Congress won. In the third phase, there are 54 people running for positions in Araria, Supaul, Jhanjharpur, Madhepura, and Khagaria. The ruling group NDA wants to keep control. They did really well in 2019, winning almost all the seats except one.
