Lok Sabha elections 2024: Congress announces 17 candidates, Jagan Reddy’s sister to contest from Kadapa

Andhra Pradesh: On Tuesday, Congress announced another list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. The party fielded Mohammad Jawed and Tariq Anwar from Bihar's Kishanganj and Katihar respectively and the party's Andhra Pradesh chief YS Sharmila from the state's Kadapa seat.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Congress announces 17 candidates, Jagan Reddy’s sister to contest from Kadapa

Andhra Pradesh: On Tuesday, Congress announced another list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. The party fielded Mohammad Jawed and Tariq Anwar from Bihar’s Kishanganj and Katihar respectively and the party’s Andhra Pradesh chief YS Sharmila from the state’s Kadapa seat.

The party also fielded former Union minister MM Pallam Raju from Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada. Sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YS Sharmila was appointed the state Congress chief in January after she announced the merger of her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the party.

The Congress’s new list of Lok Sabha candidates includes five from Andhra Pradesh, three from Bihar, eight from Odisha and another from West Bengal. In Bihar, besides Anwar and Jawed, the party fielded MLA Ajeet Sharma from Bhagalpur. With this, the total number of candidates declared by the party so far is 228. However, the suspense over the high-profile seats of Amethi and Raebareli continues.

Kurnool – PG rampullaiah yadav
Kadapa – YS Sharmila Reddy

Bihar

Kishanganj – Mohammad Jawed
Katihar – Tariq Anwar
Bhagalpur – Ajeet Sharma

Odisha

Bargarh (ST) – Sanjay Bhoi
Sundargarh (ST) – Janardan Dehury
Bolangir – Manoj Mishra
Kalahandi – Draupadi Majhi
Nabarangpur (ST) – Bhujabal Majhi
Kandhamal – Amir Chand Nayak
Berhampur – Rashmi Ranjan Patnaik
Koraput (ST) – Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka

West Bengal

Darjeeling – Dr Munish Tamang

The Congress will release its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections on April 5 with its top leaders addressing mega rallies in Jaipur and Hyderabad the next day. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 and the results will be announced on June 4.
