LS Elections 2024: Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena declares Ravindra Waikar as candidate from Mumbai North West

Mumbai: Big blow to ex-Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam as Shiv Sena on Tuesday nominated Ravindra Waikar as its candidate from Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency. A party leader gave this information. Waikar, MLA from Mumbai’s Jogeshwari, was a close aide of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray before joining the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Party secretary Sanjay More said that Shiv Sena has fielded Waikar from Mumbai N orth West seat. He will face Amol Kirtikar of Shiv Sena (UBT).

In the year 2019, BJP and its then ally Shiv Sena (undivided) won three out of six seats each in Mumbai. This time, BJP has refused to give tickets again to all its three sitting MPs in Mumbai. It has given ticket to Piyush Goyal in place of Gopal Shetty on Mumbai North seat, Mihir Kotecha in place of Manoj Kotak on Mumbai North East seat and lawyer Ujjwal Nikam in place of Poonam Mahajan on Mumbai North Central seat. Shiv Sena had won in Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central and Mumbai North West constituencies.

After the split in the party in the year 2022, Mumbai South Central MP Rahul Shewale and Mumbai North West MP Gajanan Kirtikar joined CM Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena has re-nominated Shewale and Shiv Sena (UBT) has re-nominated Arvind Sawant from Mumbai South. The ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the state has not yet announced its candidates for the Mumbai South seat. The opposition Congress has not yet announced its candidate for the Mumbai North seat. Elections will be held on all six Lok Sabha seats of Mumbai on May 20.
