Madhya Pradesh’s Home Minister, Narottam Mishra, has sparked controversy with a viral video of his speech in which he listed “making Hema Malini dance” as one of his achievements for his constituency. In the speech, Mishra detailed the development work he has undertaken for Datia, emphasizing that cultural programs were organized in the region, and he played a role in having Hema Malini perform.
Datia is Mishra’s stronghold, and he is contesting for the fourth time in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in 2023. The remarks have generated criticism, even from within his own party.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh pointed out that Hema Malini is a BJP MP, and Mishra’s comments did not spare even a member of his own party. Singh criticized Mishra’s statement, referring to it as a demonstration of disrespect towards women.
The Madhya Pradesh Assembly, comprising 230 members, is set to hold elections on November 7, with a fiercely contested campaign between the BJP and the Congress. The state is one of four going to the polls, intensifying the political competition in the region.
