Madhya Pradesh polls: Jewellery worth Rs 340 crore, cash, drugs seized during model code of conduct

Madhya Pradesh: A top official has said that a total of Rs 40.18 crore in cash and liquor, drugs, jewelery and other items totaling around Rs 300 crore have been seized in Madhya Pradesh since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the state assembly elections on October 9. Voting on 230 assembly seats in the state took place on Friday, while the counting of votes will take place on December 3. Around 76 percent voting was recorded.

Madhya Pradesh: A top official has said that in Madhya Pradesh, a total of Rs 40.18 crore in cash, drugs, liquor, jewelery and other items totaling around Rs 300 crore have been seized since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the state assembly elections on October 9. A total voter turnout of 76% was recorded in Madhya Pradesh.

Voting on 230 assembly seats in the state took place on Friday, while the counting of votes will take place on December 3. Speaking to media on Friday, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan said that since the code of conduct came into force after the announcement of the election programme, continuous action is being taken by the enforcement agencies across the state.

He said that the joint team of Flying Surveillance Team (FST), Static Surveillance Team (SST) and Police, around Rs 339.95 crore worth of illegal liquor, drugs, cash, precious metals, gold, silver, Jewelery and other items have been seized.

Rajan said, from October 9 to November 16, these joint teams seized Rs 40.18 crore in cash, Rs 65.56 crore or 34.68 lakh liters of illicit liquor, Rs 17.25 crore worth of drugs,gold, silver and other precious metals worth Rs 92.76 crore and other materials worth Rs 124.18 crore. Officials said that during the 2018 elections, when the Model Code of Conduct was in force, a total of Rs 72.93 crore worth of cash and other items were seized in such operations during that period.
