Maharashtra Cabinet Panel to Convene on Maratha Quota Issue: Key Meeting on the Horizon

In an important development concerning the reservation for the Maratha community, a meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet sub-committee is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on Monday. The Cabinet Sub-Committee, focused on Maratha Reservation and Facilities, is set to convene at Mantralaya, the state government building, as announced by an official release.

The committee, chaired by Minister of Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil, will use this meeting as an opportunity to report on the progress made thus far. The discussions will encompass various aspects related to Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha caste certificates, along with the essential evidence and documentation required for these certifications, especially within the Maratha community in Marathwada. The goal is to establish clear procedures for issuing these caste certificates following a thorough review, as stated in the release.

Meanwhile, Manoj Jarange Patil, a coordinator for the Maratha Morcha, has embarked on a hunger strike until the demands for Maratha community reservation are met. Despite extensive discussions with the Maharashtra government, a breakthrough has yet to be achieved. The primary demand is a revision of the state government’s ordinance pertaining to Maratha reservations, and Jarange Patil’s hunger strike will persist until the desired changes are made to the ordinance.
