Maharashtra: Over 20 express trains diverted after 7 coaches of goods train derailed near Kasara

Maharashtra: In a massive disruptive incident on Sunday, seven coaches of a goods train derailed near Kasara railway station in Maharashtra. As confirmed by Central Railway, the accident caused significant disruptions in Mail Express traffic on the Down line and Central line between Kasara and Igatpuri. The movement of 12261 Mumbai CSMT-Howrah Express and 11401 Mumbai CSMT-Adilabad Nandigram Express was affected due to the derailment.

The accident occurred on the Down main line between Kasara station and the TGR-3 downline section of Maharashtra’s main rail route. The occurrence occurred at around 6:31 pm, causing significant disruption to rail services in the area. However, despite the severity of the derailment, upline traffic continued to operate between Igatpuri and Kasara.

In response to the derailment, Central Railways sent two accident relief trains from Kalyan and Igatpuri stations to the accident site. The objective of rapid mobilization is to provide immediate assistance and launch rescue operations if necessary. Interestingly, Mumbai’s suburban train services were not affected by the derailment, allowing local traffic to continue.

Although the exact cause of the derailment has not yet been determined, the incident has raised concerns about the potential impact on the region’s rail traffic.
