Mumbai: On Tuesday, an official said that three Railway staffers dead after being run over by a local train during a signalling work near Mumbai. The incident happened near Vasai in Palghar district. They had gone to fix some signalling point that failed on Monday night.
After the incident, the Railways has announced financial compensation for the families of the deceased. The police said, three staffers who worked with Western Railways had gone to Vasai to attend signalling point issues.
An official of the Government Railway Police (GRP) said that hit by train while fixing signalling issue. The incident occurred at 8.55 pm on Monday between Vasai Road and Naigaon stations when the local was going towards Churchgate. According to the police, the staffers were crushed to death by a local train when the they were fixing a signalling issue.
Giving details about this incident a official said that the deceased have been identified as Vasu Mitra, Somnath Uttam Lambutre and Sachin Wankhede. The three were from the signalling department of the Western Railways’ Mumbai division.
He further said that Mitra was the chief signalling inspector (Bhayandar), Somnath was a electrical signalling maintainer (Vasai Road) and Wankhade an assistant. He added that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
