Man on board Vistara’s Mumbai-Delhi flight held for talking about ‘Hijacking’

A man was arrested for talking about kidnapping on the phone on a Vistara Airlines flight. He was arrested on the complaint of flight crew members. The passenger told that he is mentally ill due to which he had such conversation in the flight. The police have registered a case under sections 336 and 505(2) of the IPC.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police has arrested a passenger, who has been identified as Ritesh Sanjaykukar Juneja. This person was aboard a Vistara Airlines flight. He was arrested on the complaint of the flight crew members. Members had heard the man talking about the ‘kidnapping’ on the phone.

According to the Mumbai Police, the passenger told that he was mentally ill, due to which he had such conversations in the flight. No information about the flight and route has been received yet.

Mumbai’s Sahar Police has registered a case under sections 336 (which deals with offenses which are likely to endanger the life or personal safety of others) and 505(2) (which deals with offenses like spreading rumors or disturbing news) of the Indian Penal Code. Case has been registered under. Investigating the matter. Further investigation is on.

A spokesperson of Vistara airline said in a statement, “We confirm that there was an incident concerning an unruly passenger on Vistara flight UK 996 scheduled to operate from Mumbai to Delhi on 22 June 2023 at 1830 hrs.” In line with the guidelines and our standard operating procedures (SOPs), relevant authorities were immediately informed and the said customer was handed over to them. A thorough check was conducted and the flight took off with the rest of the customers after clearance, the statement said.

“We are fully cooperating with the security agencies in the investigation. Vistara stands firm with its zero-tolerance policy against unruly behaviour that endangers the safety and security of its customers and staff,” it added.
