Tripura has rolled out a new directive regarding the purchase of petrol and diesel, aiming to manage fuel reserves amid disrupted goods train services. The state government has enforced a daily limit for both buying and selling fuel, affecting two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners.
The fuel purchase restrictions come in response to the disruption of goods train services reaching Tripura, caused by a significant landslide in Jatinga, Assam. As a result, the state has witnessed a shortage in fuel reserves, prompting the government to take action.
Under the new regulation, two-wheeler owners can only purchase petrol up to Rs 200 per day, while four-wheeler owners are limited to Rs 500 worth of petrol or diesel. Additionally, petrol pumps have been instructed to restrict diesel sales to buses to 60 liters per day. Mini buses, auto rickshaws, and three-wheelers have respective daily limits of 40, and 15 liters.
The directive, issued by the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Tripura, has been put into effect from May 1 until further notice. Nirmal Adhikari, the Additional Secretary of the department, highlighted that the measures aim to address the reduced supply of fuel due to disrupted goods train services.
