Manohar Lal Khattar submit resignation as Haryana CM amid BJP-JJP turmoil ahead of LS polls

New Delhi: Amid political turmoil in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned Tuesday morning after meeting Governor Bandaru Dattareya. Mr Khattar’s resignation – followed immediately by the entire cabinet – comes amid speculation of a split in the ruling alliance over seat-sharing agreements for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Sources have also said the senior BJP leader, in a surprise move, could contest from Karnal. Central BJP leaders, including Union minister Arjun Munda and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, are in the state to oversee the changes, sources said.

The political turmoil is linked to internal conflict within the ruling coalition and widespread public condemnation of the BJP-RSS regime’s actions, including its handling of protests at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.

Sources also said the BJP, which is the single largest party in the 90-member Assembly with 40 seats, is confident of forming the government with support from independent MLAs. Till now the BJP was ruling after a post-poll alliance with Dushyant Chautala’s JJP.

The nature of change is ascertain, with senior party leaders keeping mum. The ties between the BJP and Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala-led JJP have worsened following their failure to reach a seat-sharing agreement in the state for the Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP had won all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2019 polls.
