Money laundering case: Delhi Court extends judicial custody of Manish Sisodia till March 7

New Delhi: On Saturday, a Delhi Rouse Avenue Court extends judicial custody of AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia to stay in judicial custody until March 7 over Delhi Liquor Policy case. Earlier in the day, The two were produced before Special Judge, MK Nagpal, of Rouse Avenue Court on expiry of their previously-extended judicial custody.

According to the information, they will remain in jail till March 7 in the case being probed by the ED. A detailed order is awaited. The CBI had on February 26 last year arrested Sisodia for alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

On January 17, the court had reserved its decision on whether to entertain Sisodia’s regular bail plea in the case considering his pending curative petition before the Supreme Court, following arguments from both the ED and Sisodia’s legal counsels. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) subsequently arrested him on March 9 in the connected money laundering case while he was in judicial custody in Tihar jail.

On 4 October, Sanjay Singh was arrested by the ED. ED had told the court that Sanjay Singh was part of the conspiracy to collect kickbacks from liquor groups in the Delhi excise policy. Special counsel Zoheb Hossain had argued that seeking relief simultaneously from two forums is impermissible under legal discipline, urging the trial court to await the disposal of the curative petition.

The court had recently granted three-day interim bail to Sisodia to attend his niece’s wedding. The excise policy case is being probed by both the ED and the CBI. Last year, ED filed its first chargesheet in the case. The agency said it has so far undertaken over 200 search operations in this case after filing an FIR after taking cognizance of a CBI case that was registered on the recommendation of the Delhi lieutenant governor.
