Municipal resident set on fire in Mexican town after cops shot dead local 27-year-old man

Mexican: Residents of a Mexican town set fire to the municipal palace overnight Friday in violent protests after a young man was shot in the neck by local police. According to his relatives, when he did not stop his car at a checkpoint this incident happened.

Mexican: Residents of a Mexican town set fire to the municipal palace overnight Friday in violent protests after a 27-year-old man was shot in the neck by local police. According to his relatives, when he did not stop his car at a checkpoint this incident happened.

The victim was identified as 27-year-old Brandon Arellano. He was the son of a local teacher. National media reported that police shot and killed Brandon Arellano, as he arrived outside his grandmother’s house.

Online a Videos shared showed her father attempting to revive her at the scene. In the video father Delfino Arellano said, “Once he had parked, they opened fire against the car and killed him instantly, shooting him in the jugular like cowards. My son died instantly.”

Authorities did not reveal why Arellano was stopped. Residents of Lerdo de Tejada, a city in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, overturned and set fire to a police car and clashed with police officers at the scene. They also broke the windows of the local government palace and set it on fire.

After the incident, a social media post from the state’s public security ministry said four municipal police officers had been detained for suspected homicide and would make their statements to state prosecutors. The Ministry said,”There will be no impunity.”
